This page is dedicated to those plants that are meant for summer fun or a more tropical flavor on the patio.

Annuals can be divided into two main groups, warm annuals and cold annuals.  Both have a life span of only one growing season however it is what temperature extremes that divide the annuals into the main groups.

Warm Annuals

Warm Annuals are annual flowers and vegetable plants that like our hot weather but don't like anything really colder than forty degrees Fahrenheit.  They can survive to freezing but it stunts and potentially damage the plants.  It is best to plant this type of annual in Late April for the Tri-Cities, that you can avoid any of the late frosts and the ground is warm enough to push root growth allowing these plants to start doing their thing about Mid May.  We know the chain stores like to get these plants in February and they are very tempting to buy because you a want a little color in the yard after a long winter however you are going to have to re-buy and replant all those annuals after a March cold snap or early April Freeze.  Be patient, we don't get our annuals in until Late April, we know the Tri-Cities climate.

Here is list of common warm annuals (* means they prefer afternoon shade in our area).  Please keep in mind we carry some of these but not all:

Cold Annuals are annual plants that don't care for our hot weather but enjoy growing and blooming in the cooler months of Mid September to December and February to Mid April.  These plants tend to slow down in January when it usually gets really cold.
