How to Read Our Invoices, Work Orders, and Quotes Item Descriptions

All three documents are itemized so you can see the unit price, total price, and if there is a discount due to a sale or markdown.

We try to be clear on each line item so that you have it for your records and for projects calling out specific sizes.

For hard goods, the brand name, what it is, and the size, either in liquid measurement, dry quarts, or measurements depending on what it is.

For plants, we do a little more.
It will have the plant’s common name with a variety or cultivar. Their abbreviated Latin is also there.

Then we have included relevant info about that plant’s nursery grade, like their pot size, root ball size, trunk diameter (caliper), or height. We also include other helpful information where relevant, like class within their family or harvest timelines when relevant to that plant.

We note the pot size by using the number sign (#), as is standard in the nursery industry, vs. using the older pot size standard to refer to the number of gallons a pot is.  Here are some quick examples of standard pot sizes and their gallon equivalent.
#1 is a 1gal
#2 is a 2gal
#3 is a 3gal
#15 is a 15gal
#25 is a 25gal

True or Super #1 is a larger 1-gal pot that, if filled with water, would hold a gallon where a regular #1 or 1-gal pot cannot.  We wish it could be simpler, too.

If you see a pot size like #15A on trees, that means the tree is an air pot, a laundry basket-looking pot that helps the tree develop a great root system without too many issues with being root-bound or circling roots.

For our larger trees, their root ball sizes are listed by their root ball’s width and if they are in a Basket (BSK), Root Ball (RB), Knit Bag (KB), Root Pouch (RP), or a White Bag (WB).

On trees, we will note the trunk's diameter range (like 1-1 ¼”) for deciduous trees and broadleaf evergreen trees. We will also note the height range of evergreen trees like pine, spruce, cedar, or fir, as is standard practice for the nursery trade.

We also include helpful information like hole sizes and suggested planting materials, but not included with the item are composts or staking material on trees, care info for fruit trees, or other information that would be nice to have.

Items listed as SVA (Special Value Area) are funky or oddly shaped, wounded plants, or items that need to find a home.  SVA items are not warrantied or returnable due to their heavy mark down.

For Quotes

If an item of the variety or size you listed in your quote request is unavailable, we will provide a suitable substitute that is available for your review.  These items will be noted “sub for” below all standard descriptions. If you specify that no substitutions will be accepted, then we will list what is available on your list.

Items marked as “Special Order” are items that we would have to ship in to meet the desired quantity, size, or variety.  We will also provide an estimated time for us to bring that in based on existing orders or logistics.
