Ideal Supplemental Watering Practices
Irrigation supplements of water is needed for our natural rainfall does not provide when needed. We only get on average 7 inches of rainfall per year, with the bulk occurring in the winter months.
Here is what you want to strive for when irrigating.
-Water is applied evenly, and slow enough for the soil to absorb, and sufficient enough to saturate soil.
-Irrigation intervals are spaced out to allow soil to breath and grow better roots.
-Irrigation intervals are close enough to prevent the plants from drought stressing but also not too frequent to drown them.
-Work toward a balanced sprinkler zone where the precipitation rate is the same throughout the entire zone.
-Be aware of the sun exposure and wind exposure and how they interact with your yard’s sprinklers and plants. Adjust to compensate.
-Be aware of your soil type for different soils take in water differently and holds water differently.
-Avoid having different types of sprinklers on the same zone for they apply water at different precipitation rates.
