Plant of the Week for September 10, 2019
The Beyond Midnight Bluebeard is a pretty happening plant this time of year for butterflies and other pollinators. With it’s abundant dark blue flowers that begin in August into September it is certainly a show. It grows to about 3 feet tall and wide. Beyond Midnight is a more compact form of Bluebeard that enjoys full sun and well drain soils. Put it in a spot where lavender thrives and it will be happy. Bluebeards are very easy care plants. They only need a light in fall to help control reseeding by shearing off the flowers. Then a heavier cut back in spring to help keep their shape. Bluebeards pair well with Perennial Salvia, Lavender, Blanket Flower, Mugo Pine, Switch Grasses and Black Eyed Susans. It is great addition for a pollinator garden as you can see in the video below.
