Plants of the Week of June 8th
Purple Catalpa is a tall and fast growing tree. They get about 50 feet tall and about 30 to 40 feet wide. They flower in late May or early June with these orchid like blooms. Then as they leaf out or produce new growth the leaves are purple that mature to green. They are durable trees but produce long bean pods that can be messy.
Wheels of Wonder Red Ice Plant is a succulent ground cover that spreads in hot and dry areas. Has a odd textured leaf and blooms these red with yellow centered blooms throughout summer. Easy to care for and can be an evergreen in mild winters.
Enchantress Hydrangea is a bigleaf Hydrangea that has black stems and flowers large blue or pink flowers (depending on soil pH). It repeat blooms starting in June and continues to flower through summer. Gets 3 to 5 feet tall and wide. Very striking in a shade garden.
